How about slackware, is it a viable option? Is it still SysVinit? Is that expected to continue?

  * wtf is up with the nic?
  * no IP address on boot
  * hangs at "eth0: waiting for carrier"

  # /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 eth0_start
  - gets an address right away
  # dhclient eth0
  - gets an address right away
