Okay, so I currently mostly use Devuan for both servers and workstations. The systemd debate is of no value to me… I'm not a fan, and have to assume that anyone trying to convince me of systemd's merits is simply not listening to me at all. I have been looking at Devuan workstation alternatives and haven't found anything that fits. For example, Slackware installs nicely and can be rather slim, but trying to setup a basic Openbox desktop environment is a mess. It would appear to me that slackpkg has no Openbox, and that slackbuilds creates a much larger sprawling desktop environment than I want. When I tried FreeBSD I found that the dependencies were resolved in a way that meant having a many-gigs install which slaps the essence of a lean OS in the face.
My basic desire is to have an encrypted root without LVM, and a very basic Openbox DE. I use things like Diodon as my clipboard manager and xfce4-panel as my panel application, but other than that… nothing. I don't even bother to set a wallpaper since I figure I'll almost never see it anyways. Am I going about this wrong?
